Double Journal Entry #2- "Web 2.0 and Emerging Learning Technologies and Learning Styles"

"For example, today students have a chance to read the books without even opening them."

I could not disagree with this statement more.  I am fully aware that everyone learns in a different way and that some people do learn better when they hear something.  But, books on Cd's will provoke additional consequences.  While I do not think it is a bad idea for a child to hear the reading aloud, this cannot be the only way they are getting information.  It is unhealthy to skip teaching children how to read and not developing their reading skills.  The world has evolved since our parents went to school, especially in the technological aspect.  But, it does not change the fact that a person should be able to read, write, and speak correctly.  I believe that each of those things build on one another.  If we do not develop higher level reading skills, children will fall behind in the writing.  And if a child is constantly working with technology and never in the real world, they will never develop the skills to speak and present themselves.  Eventually, our world would be full of people who could only communicate on a computer.  Technology is not a bad thing, but children need a well-rounded education.  They need to be prepared for their advancing technological world, but they cannot miss out on the basic that build a person.  In conclusion,  I feel that if a child never has to open a book, we are holding their development and threatening their future.
