Double Entry Journal #1- "Education Needs a Digital-Age Upgrade"

"Simply put, we can’t keep preparing students for a world that doesn’t exist."

It is hard to grasp the concept that one day, the jobs we now know will no longer exist and that jobs we have never even dreamed of will be taking their place.  But, I had never given much thought to how that would affect teaching.  But, it makes perfect sense.  Why teach a child something they are not going to need to know, and why not build them for the life they will be living in?  Hefferman also made me understand the ignorance the older generation lives in.  Because they did not live that way and have not been exposed to it, that is not a reason for them to shut it out. Because by shutting it out, they are only harming and slowing down the generation who will soon have the power.  I believe it will be our duty as teachers to be aware of that ignorance and make it our mission to prepare our students, not the way children have always been prepared, but for what they truly need to be prepared for.
